guide to buying, maintaining and selling art

1. TAKING CARE OF YOUR ART

The most effective way to protect your painting is with a frame. A frame protects your piece from dirt, intense hot and cold weather, humidity, damage when moving or storing, and discoloration or distortion from fingerprints.  You should hang your art in a low-traffic area of the house, keep it away from intense, direct sunlight and extreme hot or cold, be sure to not touch the painting with bare hands, and exercise extreme caution when storing or moving it.

2. FRAMING

Unless specified, all paintings come unframed. I specialize in producing beautiful art but I do not specialize in framing.

3. INSURANCE

Have someone assess your art collection for insurance in case of situations that you can't prevent, like floods and fires, that could destroy your painting.

4. WARRANTY

I do not assume responsibility for art that has not been framed, properly taken care of, or insured. I do not cover damages to paintings after they have been sold, under any condition. Please protect your art and please ask me if you have any questions about how you can do that in the best way.

5. RETURN POLICY

Because I expect that buyers take purchasing a piece of art seriously, I do not accept returns or refunds. Paintings come as is and I will inform you to the absolute best of my ability about every detail of the painting before you receive it. I am open to doing this on FaceTime, Skype, with videos and photographs as well as in-person meetings (NYC only).

6. HOW TO PURCHASE YOUR ART

Purchasing may be done online and conversations happen via email (freetheartists@kerinbowen.com). All payments must be made to KERIN BOWEN. If not on the website, payments may be made through: 1) Chase Quickpay 2) Venmo or 3) Cash (NYC buyers only). Payment must be made in full and before the art is shipped. Paintings will be shipped within 48 hours of payment clearance in Kerin Bowen's account.

7. SHIPPING

Shipping is free for residents of the five boroughs of New York City. For shipping to anywhere other than NYC, the buyer is responsible for the cost, unless otherwise specified. Each painting will be shipped with insurance and a tracking number. A bill will be sent to the buyer via e-mail with shipping charges within 24 hours of shipment. The buyer has one week from the date of the e-mail to settle the shipping payment. A $25 late fee is added to any payment not made within the week, and an extra $25 will be added for each week the payment is late after that.

8. RECEIVING YOUR ART

Upon receiving your artwork, I will call to confirm that you have indeed received your piece and to also answer any questions you may have about your art. Please be sure to read this entire article to know what to expect from the conversation as well as what to ask, as many of your questions may be answered here. 

9. REFERRALS

When your refer a buyer, you will receive 10% of the final purchase price after taxes plus 50% off of one painting of your choice. This includes sales of original paintings and commission jobs. The referred buyer must be a first-time buyer and applies to each painting purchased by the buyer.
